Using Learn Python From Codecademy.com
Hi all! It’s been nearly seven months since I last posted here. I took a break from learning Python. I think I tried to bite off more than I could chew with Automate The Boring Stuff With Python. If I had simply stuck to the prescribed curriculum in the book, I would have been in a much better place. As it was, I allowed myself to lose focus, spiraling out of control in a wormhole of possibilities. There’s just so much out there to be accomplished with Python and I tried to bypass the necessary hard work of building up my command of the syntax and vocabulary.
I was at a retreat for work last week. There were a series of presentations by companies we have a stake in. Nearly every one of them was developing custom software to help reach advance their business goals. I was so inspired by the companies’ use of technology that I decided it was time for me to give Python programming another go. Rather than immediately return to Automate The Boring Stuff With Python, though, I decided to return to a free resource I’ve previously perused: Codecademy.com.
Codecademy.com turned out to be a great way to get re-introduced to programming with Python. About 10 hours long, the course was broken down into bite-size lessons followed by hands-on practice with the skills covered. Occasionally, I would find an error in the content, which I reported. My biggest qualm with the curriculum was that it seemed to be targeted towards Python 2 instead of Python 3. Overall, it was a valuable use of time! Feel free to comment here with any questions you may have about the curriculum. I’m happy to answer!
Now that I’ve been re-introduced to Python programming, I’m ready to return my focus to Automate The Boring Stuff With Python. Once I have finished that book, I will report back here. At that point, I may be ready to post intimate details of my work on the Projects page.
Thanks for stopping by! Again, feel free to comment below with any questions. I won’t wait 7-ish months before posting again.
